‘Her piece at the Sanctuary exhibition in the Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art, (April- September2003) for example, was a bleak installation of individual human heads made out of latex chained in a line together with safety pins. Each head may be different but linked together the heads become disembodied objects removed not only from their own bodies but also from any social or indeed human context. Their different skin tones suggest they are removed from their own cultures too; alienated and objectified, they are now the targets of immigration control. Their very presence now makes them suspicious intruders in the culture of Fortress Europe.’ Alex Rotas
